                                Introduction

SCREAM! is a complete package for:
Seismometer Configuration, REal time Acquisition and Monitoring
of seismic data transmitted in Guralp Compressed Format. Connection to any
Guralp Systems digital instrument via a serial connection is all that is
needed for data reception.

                              Getting Started

When you run the application, the first window that appears is the 'Main'
window controlling the application. From this window, the information,
display and setup facilities can be called. Closing this window terminates
the application.

When the program is first run, no COM ports are open, and network usage is
disabled. (Network use requires that TCP/IP is installed in the system).
To open a COM port for data reception, select the SETUP option from the FILE
menu. A number of pages are available, and the 'Com Ports' page should be
selected. All available ports can then be opened with the desired baud rate.
Note that GSL instruments are usually configured to output at either 9600,
19200 or 38400 baud.

All streams that are received are then displayed in the 'Main' window,
along with each stream's most recent information.

To view one or more streams:
 - Open a New 'WaveView' window by selecting this option from the View menu.
 - Select the streams to be viewed ( For first one, click on it. To select
more, hold down the control key, and click on other streams.)
 - DRAG the selected streams to the display area of the WaveView window.

When the program is terminated, the position of all windows will be saved.
The next time the program is run, all windows will appear in the same place.

As many WaveView windows as desired can be opened, and any combination of
streams can be displayed in these windows. The same stream can appear in
many different windows and at different scaling factors.

button where available, press the F1 key for information on the active

                                Uninstallation

In the control panel, select Add/Remove programs, select Scream 4.3, and
click on the Add/Remove button. This will remove the application files and
any icons automatically created in the Start menu and desktop. It will not
remove data or log files, or any icons manually created.

                             System Requirements

SCREAM is designed for all versions of Windows from 98 onwards, and Linux.
Therefore, almost any IBM-PC compatible suitable for running Windows 98 or
better is sufficient.
The following is recommended:

Processor: Pentuim class, 200MHz or better
Memory: 32Mb or more
Graphics: PCI/AGP at 1024x768 resolution or more
Monitor: 17 inch or bigger
Serial Ports: Multi-input ports are available for installations requiring
                many instrument inputs.

For network operation, some form of connection is required. Note that this
application currently uses TCP/IP protocol, and packets may be BROADCAST.
Therefore care should be taken when using on an internet-connected network.

To enable TCP/IP, see the windows network settings:
  Control Panel -> Network -> Add -> Protocol -> Add -> Microsoft -> TCP/IP.

IP Addresses may have to be manually selected. Ask your network administrator
about this.
